Epidural Injections
An epidural steroid injection is an injection of a small dose of anti-inflammatory medication (corticosteroid) into the lower back to relieve pain in your legs or lower back. The medication is injected into the epidural space which is an area of fatty tissue surrounding the spinal nerves.
At Direct Radiology we perform epidural injections using CT guidance to very accurately place a thin needle in the epidural space at a specific level.
Nerve Root Sleeve Injections
NRSI’s are usually undertaken when a nerve is inflamed and/or compressed usually by a spinal disc pressing on it causing pain. This may involve the neck, upper or lower back with symptoms in the arms, body or legs. Each nerve root exiting the spine is covered and surrounded by a sheath or sleeve of fat.
This procedure works by reducing inflammation via injection of a small dose of anti-inflammatory medication (corticosteroid) and local anaesthetic into the relevant nerve root sleeve.
At Direct Radiology, we use a CT scanner to guide a thin needle very accurately into the nerve root sleeve.
Facet Joint Injections
The spine is made up of bones called vertebrae which are connected by pairs of facet joints on the right and left sides which allow movement. Like elsewhere in the body, facet joints can become arthritic and cause pain.
At Direct Radiology, we use a CT scanner to guide a thin needle very accurately in to the facet joint. The injections are designed to decrease inflammation, reduce pain and improve movement.
Fees and billing
In most instances, we bulk bill to Medicare, but it is important to check with your individual practice prior to your service.
